Make-A-Wish Australia - Our mission

Each year, thousands of Australian kids are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child.

Despite being one of Australia's most trusted charities, we currently receive no government funding. With more than 800 kids currently on a Wish Journey, every dollar helps create more wishes, which is why your support is so important.

About wishes

Each and every day, Make-A-Wish brings amazing people together to grant inspirational, life-changing wishes for children with a critical illness.

The wishes complement medical treatment, supporting families and empowering sick children with hope and joy when they need it most.

Each wish is as individual and unique as the child who imagines it. From the simple to the seemingly impossible - the #WishForce has made unicorns fly, sent kids to the moon and even brought dinosaurs back from extinction.

Medical statistics

In Australia today, the latest studies suggest more than 9,500 children are living with a life-threatening illness or condition*.

Thousands more children are diagnosed each year, with Australian statistics showing:

  • Approximately 3,000 babies are born with a heart condition each year (health.gov.au)
  • One in every 2,500 births produces a child with cystic fibrosis (cysticfibrosis.org.au)
  • 950 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year (Children's Cancer Institute)

In total, this suggests more than 6,500 Australian children will be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness this year. You can help us create a unique and unforgettable wish for every one of them.

Henry

We're proud to support @MakeAWishAust and life-changing wishes like Henry’s.

When he grows up, 6-year-old Henry wants to be a clockmaker. So his wish to be a clock keeper for a day at Brisbane’s iconic clock tower will be a lasting source of inspiration as he grows up.

We’re proud to be part of the #WishForce helping to create lasting hope, joy and inspiration for sick kids across Australia.

Oliver

Wish kid Oliver is a lover of nature documentaries and passionate about protecting wildlife.

For his inspirational wish with @MakeAWishAust, Oliver donned his very own ranger uniform and set out into the bush to help release critically endangered frogs back into the wild. But his wish didn’t stop there!

He also released an endangered rock wallaby. We're so inspired by Oliver and are proud to partner with Make-A-Wish to make amazing wishes come true!

Rosie

After being diagnosed with Wilms tumour, 5-year-old Rosie hasn’t been able to play on public playgrounds. So, when the chance to make a wish came along, Rosie immediately knew her biggest wish - to her very own bright pink cubby at home to play with her sister.

@MakeAWishAust delivered exactly what Rosie wanted – right down to the pink paint, pink slide and pink swings.

We're so proud to be part of the #WishForce, helping to make wishes like Rosie’s a reality.

Nevaeh

After nine months of chemotherapy, Nevaeh’s wish came true on her sixth birthday – this big-eared, adorable puppy Cali. “They have been inseparable ever since … the wish is like the rainbow at the end of the storm,” her mum Narelle shared.

As a @MakeAWishAust partner, we are so proud to support kids like Navaeh and help make their life-changing wishes come true.?
